British Asbestos Case Results in $300,000 SettlementINDEX...HOME Good Sites A couple in Texas recently filed suit against 39 different companies due an illness caused by exposure to asbestos. Theodore Alderman and wife, Nancy, are filing their lawsuit in West Virginia where Mr. Alderman worked from 1957 to 1990 as a pipefitter for Union Carbide. Rather than just suing Union Carbide, the Aldermans decided instead to sue all of the companies that were responsible for everything from manufacturing the products that contained asbestos to keeping the products in stock. Meanwhile, in the UK, Peter White is suing the toy firm Mettoy Co., Ltd. due to his exposure to asbestos while working as a maintenance man from 1939 to 1980. Mr. White has since developed mesothelioma. He claims that, while employed for Mettoy, he used to cut and fashion office partitions made of asbestos and sweep up the shavings that fell to the floor during cutting. In addition, he also repaired asbestos roofs. White is 81 years old and is not expected to recover from the disease. He is suing for ¡Ì150,000 ($297,434). In other mesothelioma and asbestos lawsuit news, a man in the UK was recently awarded ¡Ì165,000 ($327,178) in an asbestos-related lawsuit. He was exposed to asbestos from lagging pipes while working in maintenance for the British Airport Authority from 1969 to 1999. Seven years later, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma. The courts ruled in his favor because they determined that the British Airport Authority had not provided him with adequate protection that would have prevented the asbestos fibers to enter his lungs. |
